Empire mahogany side chair with a wide curved tablet top back splat and a horizontal foliate carved center splat. The upholstered seat is supported by sloping rounded side rails. At the apron corners are carved florets above the urn-shaped turnings and reeded front legs terminating with bun feet. The back legs are square saber styles.

A pewter water pitcher made in a form similar to the Boardmans pewtersmiths of Hartford, Connecticut. Boardmans' pewter shop was in business from 1804-1873.
Lovebird mark, albeit is not completely struck, which is two facing birds with the initials LO and VE.

The plate was not made in London as one mark suggests. The love mark was used over a long period of time, ca. 1750-1840, and by a succession of Philadelphia pewterers.
Sheraton style pembroke table made of mahogany. The table has an oblong fixed leaf with drop leaves half the width of the center. The oval drop leaves are serpentined and when opened, are supported by pivoted shaped brackets. The end skirts are straight with one containing a full-width drawer. The four slender legs are turned at the top then are tapered and reeded berfore terminating with a turned bun plain taper and bun feet.
A pair of silver candelabra that each feature two curved arms extending from under the center capital. Each capital fetures a sconce with cockbead decor. The capitals mounted on the two arms have drip pans that are also decorated with cockbead edges. The center capital surmounts an urn shaped knop with a cockbeaded edge surmounting a tapered column that terminates at the base with a cockbeaded wreath.

One of two demitasse cups. Inside of cup is lined with gilt decor that extends over the cup's rim. The rim gilding connects to two vertical gilt bands and a band around the base forming a frame around varied handpainted landscape scenes; the cup handle is also gilded. The remainder of the outer body has a solid pink hue.

Notes
In 1995 the JBF staff assigned the Object ID W.95.69.2 to this Compote as a FIC probably because original paper records were not found.
In March 2023 the paper file has been found that identifies Lois Cassatt Thayer as the donor in 1935. Mrs. Thayer was the daughter to Alexander Cassatt and his wife, Maria Lois Buchanan Cassatt. Maria Lois Buchanan was the daughter to Rev. Dr. Edward Y. Buchanan, the youngest sibling to President James Buchanan.
Parisian Pink decorated china platter. pink and gold border with a gold medallion at the center of the platter. Designed by Jean-Pierre Feuillet. Some wear on interior and exterior gold border.
James Buchanan purchased the platter as part of a Parisian Pink china service from the retiring French Ambassador, Louis Adolphe Aimé Fourier, comte de Bacourt at his Washington diplomatic residence in the year 1846.
The catalog number written on the bottom of the platter is 98.1.18 and will need to be changed to W.1998.001.016.
