Urn-shaped wood candlestick cup and stem screws onto shallow bowl base. Incised line around outside lip. Outside bottom is flat, slightly concave. On the base is a circular image of a man and woman on a donkey comprised of varied colors of inlaid wood. Background of the image is dark brown.
Parisian Pink decorated china platter. pink and gold border with a gold medallion at the center of the platter. Designed by Jean-Pierre Feuillet. Some wear on interior and exterior gold border.
James Buchanan purchased the platter as part of a Parisian Pink china service from the retiring French Ambassador, Louis Adolphe Aimé Fourier, comte de Bacourt at his Washington diplomatic residence in the year 1846.
The catalog number written on the bottom of the platter is 98.1.18 and will need to be changed to W.1998.001.016.

Undocumented stories claim that this table was ordered by William Jenkins in 1828, the year he had the Wheatland mansion built, and that it has conveyed to each subsequent owner with the deed. The table dates from the first quarter of the nineteenth century and might attributed to the Bachman cabinetmakers.
Hepplewhite Pembrook Oval Table. Two drop leaves, when opened, are supported by pivoted shaped brackets. End skirts are straight with one containing a full-width drawer. The four slender tapering legs have satinwood inlay at the upper end.
Fixed leaf top table with serpentine drop leaves at each sides. Beaded molding on both skirts with drawer on one side. Brass molded handle plate with dogwood blossom decoration, bail handle. Legs are reeded with bun foot.

Notes
In 1995 the JBF staff assigned the Object ID W.95.69.2 to this Compote as a FIC probably because original paper records were not found.
In March 2023 the paper file has been found that identifies Patty Lane Fayer Eldridge as the donor in September 1963. Mrs. James W. Eldridge was the daughter to Patty Lane Fay and the great niece to Harriet Lane Johnston. Patty Lane Fay was daughter to James Buchanan Lane, the first-born to Jane Buchanan Lane, President James Buchanan's sister.
