Swarr noting that he has received a proposal to write the biography of James Buchanan from Mr. Shunk, who would be under the influence of Judge Black and his partially false opinions about the end of Buchanan’s administration; wondering about Mrs. Johnston’s views of Mr. Reed or the book; hoping that Mrs. Johnston has received her interest on her trust funds and is satisfied with them; noting that funds for John Weaver’s school will soon be due and suggesting that these funds and those for the Lane boys be legally invested; and noting that Mr. Reed’s property on Chestnut Hill is advertised at sheriff’s sale in the Daily Age. This collection was relocated from the Wheatland mansion to the LancasterHistory archives in the Spring of 2009. Letter from E. Y. Buchanan to H. B. Swarr enclosing the endorsed check sent this week; noting that when they meet on the 7th he can receive the funds for John Weaver’s school fees; noting that Mr. Shunk wrote a second letter withdrawing his offer to write James Buchanan’s biography, after learning that Mr. Reed was still being considered; and supposing that Mrs. Johnston might have had him write the first letter.
