Description
Letter from son Joseph to J. B. Henry detailing his duties as surgeon for American soldiers; the climate is fine except for the flies and mosquitoes; the diseases are the same as in Cuba but less severe; Colonel Pettit faced court martial but was acquitted in a strange way for killing an insurecto to protect superiors; the colonel said that James Buchanan Henry met Mrs. Pettit in Switzerland; apologizes for not seeing Jamiet; and asks that James Buchanan Henry use his influence to have the volunteer army commission changed to regular army commission when the present system ends in 1901. Envelope with five postmarks with printed return address: War Department, Post Zamboanga Mindanao addressed to Hon. J. Buchanan Henry, care F P. Envelope with postmarks and remains of removed stamp addressed to Mr. J. Buchanan Henry, Hotel Maryland, Annapolis, Maryland.[13 October 1902] Date from envelope.
