John Forbes (5 September 1707-11 March 1759) was a British general in the French and Indian War. He is best known for leading the Forbes Expedition that captured the French outpost at Fort Duquesne and for naming the city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania after British Secretary of State William Pitt the Elder.
Summary
This book consists of letters Forbes wrote to British secretary of state William Pitt, Governor Denny of Pennsylvania, and Governor Sharpe of Maryland . A few letters by other persons were included due to their relevance to the subject of the letters. A biographical sketch of General Forbes is also included.

A letter of marque and reprisal was a government license that authorized a private person, known as a privateer or corsair, to attack and capture vessels of a nation at war with the issuer. Abraham Rudisill was born in Hanover PA on April 14, 1811, and entered the Pennsylvania Conference of the United Brethren Church in 1871 at the age of 60. A truly unique personality, he was a soldier throughout the Civil War, including the Battle of Gettysburg. He was also a self-educated scientist who contributed many articles to scientific journals. As much at home with Greek and Hebrew as with English, he was also a scholar and writer - and for a while he published a paper called The Monthly Friend.
