Notes
The first edition of "La graunde abridgement"--English Short Title Catalogue.
The title "La graunde abridgement" taken from the English Short Title Catalogue.
Probably printed by John Rastell (v. 1) and Wynken De Worde (v. 2-3), beginning about 1514. Cf. Law library journal, v. 51, 1958, p. [100]-116 and ESTC. The colophon of v. 3 is dated 1516.
"Finis tocius istius op[er]is finit[us] xxi die Dicembr[is] A[nn]o d[omi]ni Millecimo qui[n]ge[n]tesimo sextodecimo"--Colophon.
Title page of vol. 1 delineates a king upon the throne with "Prima pars huius libri" printed above; vol. 2 has title page with the royal coat of arms and "Sequitur secunda pars" printed above; vol. 3 has title page with the royal coat of arms and "Ultima pars huius libri" printed above.
Vol. 1 has foliation: [1], CC, [1], CCi-CClxxiii, [1], CClxxix-CClxxxvii leaves; vol. 2: [1], CCix, CCxi-CClxxiiii leaves; vol. 3: CxCii, CxCiiii-CCxxxi leaves.
Signatures of vol. 1: pi1 a⁸( -a8) b⁶ C-U⁸, ²a-²q⁸ (²q3 blank) ²r⁴; vol. 2: a¹⁰ b-z⁸ [et?]⁸ [con?]⁸ A-I⁸; vol. 3: 2a-2z⁸, [et?]⁸ [con?]⁸ 2A-2C⁸ 2D⁶.
LC copy vol. 3 t.p. has "The price of the whole boke (.xl. s.) Whych boke conteynyth iii grete volumes," is printed below "Ultima pars huius libri."

Description
The Temperance Collection includes convention programs of the Lancaster County Woman's Christian Temperance Union (W.C.T.U.); a history of the group from 1884-1959; Pennsylvania State W.C.T.U. function programs; and a minute book from the Bart Chapter. Included are handwritten notes on some of the conventions, pro-temperance booklets and newspapers (Moral Reformer and American Reformer), and miscellaneous addresses and articles. Of special interest is a booklet "Operation Interview" in which 36 prominent Lancastrians comment on the question, "Is social drinking necessary for success?", and a newspaper article reminiscing on the temperance movement in Columbia, Pennsylvania.

Papers filed for construction and repair of bridges. The types of petitions presented to the Court of Quarter Sessions include: petitions for bridge construction and repair, petitions for inspections, and petitions for bridge funds. Other types of items include: specifications, proposals, and contracts for bridge construction and repair; bridge blueprints and plans; correspondence; bills for materials; and bridge condition reports. Many papers show date; court term and case number; names of petitioners, viewers, inspectors, and contractors; costs and fees; location of bridge; and name or number of bridge. The order and report of viewers documents are of particular interest as they usually include a copy of the original petition; the order and names of viewers to inspect the site; the public announcement for the viewers meeting; the report and recommendation of viewers, often with a drawing of the site and surrounding area; and the court decision.
