Photo of Schlauch siblings taken by their father. Written on wood backing the photo: "Ed Schlauch (with drum)/ Alice O. Schlauch (Zell)/ "Lill" Schlauch (Hoover)/ Ida Schlauch (Haag-Steel)/ Taken by their father." Unknown in which direction the girls are named. One can assume the names in parentheses are later married names of the females.
White mat around photo is tan with age, lines of dust in corners and around edges of frame that is open in back. One piece of wood partially covers the back with exposed space on both lengthwise edges.
Wood frame with dark glossy finish and gold painted edge next to glass. Wood exposed on all corners, many scratches throughout.
Mount Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church, "Located between Atglen and Christiana.
The congregation of the church was organized in 1817. Church was built in 1820. It was a station on the 'Underground Railroad.' It observed its 116th anniversary in 1936. Destroyed by fire in 1937 and was immediately rebuilt with various changes in construction."

Benjamin H. Latrobe (1764-1820) who designed the U.S. Capitol on "Capitol Hill" in D.C., has been called "The Father of American Architecture." His family was active in the Moravian church and was sent to Moravian school in Niesky in Silesia. He was multilingual, traveled extensively was formally educated as an architect. Latrobe Park in S. Baltimore is names for the family. In 1803, he designed "Old West," the first building on the campus of Dickinson College in Carlisle. This building, finished in 1822, is a fine example of Federal Period architecture.

Advertisement for the public sale of land in Norriton Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, on the Ridge Turnpike road 18 miles from Philadelphia. The late residence of General Andrew Porter, deceased. 24 December 1813. Terms to be made known by Robert Porter and George B. Porter. Anyone wishing to see the property should apply to Mr. Stephen Porter. Printed by Benjamin Grimler, Lancaster. Also printed in German.

On top, inlay shell in an oval with green background, all within an 2 fine-line band border. Metal outlined key on front center. 2 movable metal handles, one on each end. Entire wood panel in lid folds out to reveal a mirror secured by a swivel tab. A metal ring for pulling panel down/ Circular inlay designs on green background in center of closed lid portion. Intricate spiral adorn edges of all 8 sections and green felt-lined tray. 2 narrow divisions hold slide-in tops with metal pull rings fit into compartment. Portion that holds 2 small drawers can be lifted out to reveal .5" storage area. The entire lower portion can be lifted out. Bottom covered with black felt.
This record group contains canceled orders that were issued by the county commissioners for payment to be made by the county treasurer. The orders show date, order number, amount, name of payee, purpose, and signatures of the county commissioners. In the case of "poor children," teachers were reimbursed by the county for tuition and/or the supplies purchased for students whose parents were unable to pay. Orders include: Poor Children, Almshouse, Bridges, Coroners' Inquests, Prisons, Roads, Court House, and Tax Exonerations.
