Henry detailing his duties as surgeon for American soldiers; the climate is fine except for the flies and mosquitoes; the diseases are the same as in Cuba but less severe; Colonel Pettit faced court martial but was acquitted in a strange way for killing an insurecto to protect superiors; the colonel said that James Buchanan Henry met Mrs. Pettit in Switzerland; apologizes for not seeing Jamiet; and asks that James Buchanan Henry use his influence to have the volunteer army commission changed to regular army commission when the present system ends in 1901. Custodial History
The James Buchanan Family Papers were collected by the James Buchanan Foundation for the Preservation of Wheatland. This collection was relocated from the Wheatland mansion to the LancasterHistory archives in the Spring of 2009. Digitization of the James Buchanan Family Papers was funded by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, PHMC Appl ID # 201808013051, 2019-2020.
