Watercolor of Eli K. Mylin farm, mounted in large gilt frame.
Painting is done on a rectangular, heavy sheet of sepia-brown paper with textured surface. Executed in greens, brown, red and white. Immediate foreground shows a railroad stretching from left to right, bordered by wooden fencing. Fields in near foreground lead up to a farmstead in midrange consisting of a stone house at far right encircled by a white picket fence, a large white barn at far left, and various outbuildings located between them. Distant fields rise slightly to form rolling hills with trees and fencing at horizon. Sketchy white clouds are arranged across the sky.
The farm is located directly south of Willow Street, Pequea Twp., Lancaster County and belonged to donor's great-grandfather. Her grandmother, Lillie V. Stehman, grew up there before marrying Isaiah D. Stehman and moving to Mount Joy.
The 1864 Atlas shows E.K. Mylin residing in the extreme southeast corner of Pequea Twp. The 1899 Atlas shows two farms in close proximity, both owned by E. K. Mylin.
Painted in 1913, probably from a photo post card (with a May 1906 postmark) that shows this exact scene.

Overall good condition. Minor buckling across surface with vertical streaks of dark soil across both painting and backing paper. Bother papers have suffered some fading. Frame has much of gliding intact on interior surfaces although worn and soiled but exterior surfaces of frame have been painted over to hid chips and losses. Reverse side of frame has torn and soiled brown paper backing covering two large wood back boards.
A: Watercolor on wove paper of J. Crump Tannery, Marietta, Pa, depicting a panoramic view of the Klumpp Tannery and residence, viewed from Front St. The white 2-story frame house with one-story addition is in the foreground on the left with a man and woman by the front door. The tannery complex with smokestack is on the right, set further back from the street with the tanning operation underway. A man in a small horse-drawn carriage is in the street in the front and a boy chasing 2 chickens is in the yard between the house and tannery. A brick church is in the background center.
John C. Klumpp's Tannery was built by P. Moyer on Locust Street between 2nd St. (now E. Market) and Prospect Alley in 1815. Klumpp acquired the tannery in 1874 and operated it until his death in 1901. The tannery occupied lots 69-70-71-72, Strawberry Alley ran beside the Klumpp residence on the left. To the rear of the dwelling, behind the fence can be the kitchen garden and outhouse.

B: Black and white photo showing roughly the same view as A, although closer to ground level. The house is on the left and the tannery on the right. At least five people are sitting/standing on the porch of the house facing the yard. The buildings appear mostly unchanged from the watercolor. The date "1908" is written in the lower left corner in ink.
C: Black and whit photo of the tannery from the back. Four separate buildings of varying design can be seen in a row, with the smokestack extending up out of frame slightly right of center. A stone bridge over a creek is at extreme right, with creek running around the buildings to the left. The date "1929" is written in the lower left corner in blue ink.
The photographs appear to be photographic copies of the originals. They were attached to the paper backing covering the frame of the watercolor.
A: watercolor has brown staining all over, especially apparent in the sky. Further discoloration along the top edge. The pieces was cleaned (dry and wet), mended, and flattened by the Conservation Center for Art and Historic Artifacts in Philadelphia in 1991.
B,C: Photos. B is browned and faded at the edges and curves inward. Both B and C have tape and backing residue on the reverse. They were dry cleaned, mended and flattened by the CCAJA in 1991. Further details available in file.
Needlework family register, cone in black cross stitch on canvas. A large pink fabric rose is attached to each corner with three smaller roses at the top, all with green fabric leaves and stems. The heading at the top reads "The/Family of/ Noah and Katie Fisher," then lists the names and birthdates of the parents and children (Rachel, Emma, Betsie, Salome, Amos, Susie, and Aaron). At the bottom is the following inscription: "When this you see remember me/Susie Fisher/ 1910", with orange and black diagonal lines above and below the date. The piece is currently in a simple wood frame with gold leaf.

There are small light brown spots over the entire surface. There are a few dead insects in the fabric roses. The gold leaf has chipped away in a few spots.
April 7, 2004- Replaced backing with acid free & removed insect carcasses for 2004 exhibit.
Machine and hand stitched. Gray wool front. Turnover collar with black braided piping that continues down front. Two pockets each side with black braided piping. Five cloth covered button closures. Back is pieced dark gray silk-like twill fabric with tow gussets at base. V-shaped cut-out bottom in center. Pieced lining is cream twill cotton. Gussets on back bases to march front. Pleat in front lining, Right front with pocket.
Label stitched to back of inside: "Kendig-Whelan-Mason/ Philadelphia/ Mr. Chas. L Jackson/ Date 10/24/18 No. 10569." Inside proper right vest front is "B Spahr" in blue pencil.

Slight wear on fabric covered buttons. Extreme spotting to lining. Hole in vest back and stitching lines.
Clear pressed glass compote and lid. Added decoration is wheel-cut. Body is a round vessel with upward curving sides and a ring of recessed ovals around its base. Sides decorated with a wheel-cut design of leaf-and-berry vine. Body sits on a pedestal with raised round foot stem with a decorative ball at center resembling a pineapple. Domed lid has same decorative ball as stem of compote. Same vine design as on the is wheel-cut into top and a ring of ovals is at bottom (same as ring of ovals on base). Note: Number appears only on bottom of compote. Lid is not marked.

Provenance
Donors are brother and sister, Marianne Richman Replogle of Arizona and Merle Richman of Florida. The recall ownership of the compote bye their maternal grandmother Mable (Mrs. Charles) Wisner of 1016 Marietta Ave. in Lancaster. The believe the compote was used at their summer home at Landisville Camp Meeting (a Methodist campground of cottages). Compote then passed to the daughter (donors' mother) Louise Wisner Richman (1909-2006). Louise left Lancaster in 1931 after graduating from Lancaster General as a nurse. She later returned to Lancaster as a widow and resided in the home at Landisville Camp Meeting. Louise always wanted this compote to be given to a museum and not to the children.(Wendell Zercher.)

Heavy tarnish overall. Moderate scratching. Slightly dented in center of and below engraving. Small nicks on rim of lid. Minor corrosion where handle and thumb piece connect to body and on bottom. Some polish residue in crevices.
Tin candle mold with 2 rows of 4, mounted on a raised rectangular base. The 8 molds incline toward each other at their tips and are soldered together for strength. Wire finger ring attached to one side of base and large looped strap handle at other side.

Copper sculpting/modeling tool hand fashioned to create a flattened, spoon-like handle leading to a rounded shank ending in another flattened end bent at the tip to create a short 1/2" extension bent to nearly a right angle for working in clay or plaster. End is squared off. Crude but effective tool for sculpting bears marks of hammering, especially underside of flattened handle. Used by Lloyd Mifflin. Tool presumed to have been fashioned by Lloyd Mifflin himself from a length of copper. Provenance: Mifflin to the Minnich sisters to the groundskeeper at Norwood to donors.
Miniature stoneware crock made as an advertising piece for Steinman Hardware. Cylindrical body, molded rim at outside. Printed on side in cobalt blue is: "STEINMAN HDWE. CO./ LANCASTER, PA. Dark brown glaze on inside and top half of outside; bottom half is a tan glaze. Bottom unglazed with work marks over surface.
Miniature redware storage jar, reddish-brown body with manganese decoration on neck and shoulders with side drips. Tin glazed overall except for bottom.
Body is tall and cylindrical with slightly flared base, shoulders that slope upward to a minimal plain neck and mouth. Mid-line impressed band of "beads" and additional band very faintly impressed 1/4" above base.
Coloring is typical of pieces made by Jacob Medinger (1856-1932). Jacob's father, William Medinger, operated a pottery in Limerick, Montgomery Co., which was taken over by his three sons. By 1900, Jacob alone ran the pottery.

Yellow earthenware lobe-paneled spittoon decorated with streaked and spattered dark brown manganese under a clear lead glaze. Oval drain hole on side. Underside has impressed maker's name in block letters: "Eagle/ Porcelain Works / Lancaster City, PA / Henry Gast, S.Q. St. "
Small teacup (A) and saucer (B), white-bodied china. (A) Round teacup has scalloped base including four projecting feet. Rises with an inward curve before curving outward at lip.decorated with applied dark blue petals flanking a circle of applied light blue-painted flowers centering in gold-stampled lettering: " Souvener/ of/ Lancaster/ Pa." Body has molded flowers embossed around top and branch-like handle applied at side. Gold painted trim on one side of handle, the lip, and applied flowers as well as three stamped flowers at each side.
(B) Saucer (4 3/4" dia.) has embossed foliate design on top; small foot ring. Gold painted line on outer edge and inner line circle at central depression. Does not match teacup and may be a later addition.
(A) Teacup stamped on bottom with a crown over a shield with the monogram of "TGC"(?). Impressed nearby is a number, possible "1912" or "1917". (B) Saucer is stamped "MADE IN GERMANY" within a circle. The number "50" is stamped in gold.

Small cream pitcher of molded white bodied china, dark blue trim around top with gold veining and other highlights. Inverted pear shaped vessel has embossed leaves at sides, four small feet in gold and applied handle. On side of body in stamped, gold lettering is: "Souvenir/ of/ Lancaster/ Pa." (Matching sugar bowl, G.01.35.19)
Stamped underneath in gold is a crown over shield with the monogram of "TGC"(?) The number "4" also stamped in gold.

Small molded sugar bowl (A) with fitted lid (B), of white-bodied china. Bulbous pear shaped body has leaf molded exterior and four sagging lobes that bulge at the base. Two applied rustic handles. Decorated with dark blue on upper 1/3 of bowl. Gold-painted highlights on one side only, on handles and embossed leaves at sides. On side of body in stamped, gold lettering is: "Souvenir/ of/ Lancaster/ Pa."
Fitted, domed lid (B) is molded with foliate inspiration with rustic handle/finail.
Stamped underneath in gold is a crown over shield witht the monogram of "TGC"(?) The number "12" also stamped in gold.

Shot glass of clear, pressed glass. Straight flaring sides have etched advertisement at one side: "Rohrer's/ A/ WHISKEY/ ROHRERS LIQUOR STORE/ LANCASTER, PA." This store was located where Watt & Shand building is on Penn Square.
Handwritten note of donor in file states "Probably an antique Sara Rohrer gave Daddy from Rohrer Liquor Store."

Shot glass of clear, pressed glass. Straight flaring sides have etched advertisement at one side: "CHAS. A. GROVE'S SONS/ G/ LANCASTER PA." Grove's liquor store was located next to Brown's bar or store on the NE corner of Penn Square near the entrance to Fulton Bank. The 1903 and 1909 City directories both list a 15 Penn Square address.
Charles A. Grove reportedly died 1907 and his sons Charles E. Grove and George F. Grove continued the business until Prohibition.
