Transom window from President Abraham Lincoln's funeral car. Frosted glass has wheel-engraved foliate design. Two hinges attached at one side of painted wood frame.
Woven coverlet with central medallion circled by leaves, vines and grapes. Eagles on each of the four inner corners have wings spread, stars and stripes on their breasts. Eagles on the border have wings closed. Outer border of swags and tassels. Band at foot edge:, "Made by H. Stager - Mount Joy - Lancaster Co. PA - Fast Color - No 1 - Clara L. Whitlock"
One piece, no center seam. Cream-colored cotton warp; red, green and blue-green wool weft. Top edge rolled and stitches. 2-inch self-fringes on sides; tape with fringes sewn to foot edge.
Walking cane used by Congressman Thaddeus Stevens late in life. Made of a tree branch with irregularities and smoothed knots; unusual wood with pronounced grain. Grip end curves into a burled knob. Glossy finish.
Silver cap on tip of grip is engraved: "This cane / was the property / of Hon. Thaddeus Stevens / during his latter days. / Presented to H.A. Zug, 1868." Bottom end wrapped with a 1.25" wide brass collar and an iron tip.
Provenance
Zug's relationship to Stevens is unknown. Henry A. Zug (22 Aug 1825 - 22 Apr 1890) married Fannie Hershey (5 Jul 1819 - ??) on 19 Nov 1844. Resided in Lancaster City.
In 1871 Henry Zug was a pharmaceutist at 44 E. Chestnut.
In 1873-74 Zug was a custom house inspector at 41 W. Orange St.
1880 Census says Zug was a "dealer in produce".
Death ceritificate of 1890 notes occupation as "druggist supplies".
His daughter, donor Lola Zug (9 Dec 1861 - 28 Jul 1952), was unmarried and a teacher in city.
A Silver kugel in grape cluster form, silvered interior. Mold-blown glass is well formed. Top has patterned brass cap with wire hanging ring. 6.5" x 4.5"
B Green kugel in grape cluster form, with silvered interior. Mold-blown glass is well formed. Top has patterned brass cap with wire hanging ring. 5 x 3.5"
C Gold kugel with silvered interior, in grape cluster form. Mold-blown glass is well formed. Top has patterned brass cap with wire hanging ring. 5 x 3.25"
D Bag of twisted glass cylinders with tapered ends. One end twisted into a circle for metal hook.
Wrought iron chain of 0.75"-long oval links. One end of chain has large iron ring attached; nothing at other end.
Metal strip (42.1.1A) is unattached with unknown purpose. Dimensions are: 0.5" W 9.375" L and 1/16" Thick. Each end is slightly widened with two holes at each end.
Note attached to chain reads, "Wrought Iron Chain Pull for Door Bolt from building erected in 1756 in Lancaster, Pa"
Slip decorated mochaware with dendritic patterns in dark brown on pearlware body (A) with lid (B). Slip banded with broad orange-brown band and dark brown borders. Applied rolled handle with shaped, decorated terminals. Slightly domed lid has two bands of dark brown and one of orange-brown, with round finial and cutaway for spoon.
Removed label "Mocha 5B". Remaining tape label on lid is "2082 J. B. Morris, Jr."
Molded pearlware bowl (a) with lid (b). Hand painted and transfer printed Cobalt blue floral print decoration covers all of exterior. Two baskets with flowers on sides. Rectangular handles are part of the piece.
