"A charge delivered to the grand-jury by the Honourable Thomas McKean, Esquire, Chief Justice of Pennsylvania, at a Court of Oyer and Terminer, and general goal delivery, held at Lancaster, for the county of Lancaster, on the seventh day of April, 1778, being the first court of its kind held in the state under the common-wealth, and published by special request of the said grand-jury." Letter from Edward Burd in Philadelphia to Jasper Yeates in Lancaster. Regarding an inquiry to employ a servant boy or purchase an enslaved boy, the receipt of certificates of immigrants naturalized at York, Carlisle, and Reading in May 1769 and requesting a certificate for Lancaster, and a case in Mayor's Court for a woman indicted for adultery.
