"A charge delivered to the grand-jury by the Honourable Thomas McKean, Esquire, Chief Justice of Pennsylvania, at a Court of Oyer and Terminer, and general goal delivery, held at Lancaster, for the county of Lancaster, on the seventh day of April, 1778, being the first court of its kind held in the state under the common-wealth, and published by special request of the said grand-jury." Letter from James Burd to son-in-law, Jasper Yeates, regarding Yeates' inquiry about purchasing an enslaved boy from David Ireland. The letter provides some information about the young man and notes that Mr. Ireland's brother is a Customs Collector in the Caribbean.
