One of eleven pieces from James Buchanan's French Parisian Pink dinner service. Designed and decorated by Jean-Pierre Feuillet in Paris at his studio on rue de la Paix no. 20. Hand-painted scenes on both sides of this lozenge-shaped tureen and across the cover having a pinnacle gilt knob, in pink and gilt over a white background, the handles on he tureen are shaped as Egyptian cats in gilt terminating in gilt palmetto leaves. The rim is in gilt with a wide pink band following a narrow band of gilt and white background above a gilt foot.
