This collection of photographs pertains to the family of Fanny Grove (b. 1874, d. bet. 1930-1938), daughter of Amos Grove (b. 1837, d. 1893) and Sarah O'Brien (b. 1840, d. 1924) of Marietta and Fanny Grove's husband, Henry Spangler Rich (b. 1867, d. 1938). Henry S. Rich was a prominent businessman in Marietta - a banker with First National Bank of Marietta and as an insurance agent, among other businesses. The Rich family lived at Prospect Place, a home on Fairview Avenue in Marietta. Amos Grove, father of Fanny Grove Rich, owned the Accomac, a summer vacation spot on the York County side of the Susquehanna River. He also maintained the boarding and mess tents at the Landisville Campmeeting.

Henry to Mary Hagner Nicholson hoping she is well and recalling with joy their last walk along the bay as the “broad streak” of the moon appeared; the motor for his yacht Savana will arrive and Ben will install it so that he and Mary can go sailing; Bob Magraw is coming for the weekend; is looking forward to seeing her again; Miss Lane is christening the “new sloop of war” Lancaster at the request of Commander Stewart; Baron Sacker and the aide-de-camp to Grand Duke Constantine, Baron Bori, will be visiting Annapolis soon; and offers to send her a bouquet if she decides to go to a ball. Letter from J. B. Henry to Mary Hagner Nicholson trying to get over a “large dinner”; looking forward to next week when he hopes to bring his yacht to Annapolis for a sail to Baltimore and back if he gets the weekend off and the weather is fine; the President granted a short reprieve to Barret, who should have been hanged today; wonders of Miss Emily’s sore throat is better; hopes she will be able to accompany Miss Ella to Washington so that he and she can see each other every night and would be her first visit to the capital since their engagement; Mr. Magraw came from Baltimore to have dinner with him and hopes Magraw and a ”sparkling young widow” will soon make a match; has received an invitation to General Henderson’s daughter’s wedding, the groom, Mr. du Pont, is a good friend of his.
