Label in Archives claims hammer was originally propery of Alexander Stephens, vice-president of the Confederacy and was found in his office desk in Richmond, VA.

Additional information related to the print can be found in LancasterHistory library book 923.2 S846po. This book indicates that the print was taken from an 1862 photograph. The book also includes information advertising the print as well as testimonials from local newspapers and Stevens himself confirming the likeness. The letter (or a copy of it) from Stevens that is transcribed at the beginning of the book is folded into the back pages. A subscribers' list at the back of the booklet shows the 1867 price for the print: an artist's copy is $15. The booklet identifies the print as a steel engraving.

John Sartain was an important nineteenth-century printmaker, who moved from England to the United States and is credited with pioneering mezzotint engraving in the United States.

Large color lithograph print adhered to acidic paperboard backing. Depicts scenic farmstead where Robert Fulton was born.
In the foreground is a road running left to right with trees and fencing on either side. There is a passenger coach with four galloping horses left of center and a man and woman riding horses to the right. Another tree-lined road joins this road near the center of the print and disappears into the horizon. On this road is a wagon with two riders. To the left of the road is a large farmhouse and outbuildings. On the right side is a barn with outbuildings.
Below the scene is written: "A VIEW OF THE/ BIRTH PLACE OF ROBERT FULTON/ LANCASTER COUNTY, STATE OF PENNSYLVANIA." In the center of this sentence, within a circle, Robert Fulton is depicted in high style clothing in front of a waterfront showing a steamship to the side. Below this portrait is a history of Robert Fulton.
Under the left corner of the farm scene is written, "Drawn by John H. Sherwin." Under the right corner is "L.N. Rosenthal's lith. Philad.a"
Heavily darkened and soiled. Darkening around edges and streak down left side. Moisture stains at top edge, lower right corner, and bottom left corner and edge , Mildew spots in center of print. some foxing and faded spots in places overall. Two small brown stains at bottom edge, center. Attached to cardboard backer.
Same as preceeding print. Black and white engraving of James Buchanan. Subject is standing between a chair and a table, holding a book that is resting on the table. Signature below, with smaller print: "Engraved by permission from the original in the possession of J.C. Buttre, Esq." and additional print below it. Mixture of etching and engraving. Johnson Fry & Co., Publishers.

Three parallel, oblique scratches at bottom of image upwards. Paper is acid burned, particularly around edges. Reverse has sticky tape residue along edges, all four sides.

Engraving print taken from "History of the United States" publication dated 1869. Image shows full-length portrayal of President James Buchanan in formal dress suit extending his left hand that is holding a paper document. Facing the President are the four Japanese Delegates to the United States dressed in traditional garb. To the President's left are cabinet members, Lewis Cass, Secretary of State and Howell Cobb, Secretary of Treasury. Standing behind the President is Miss Harriet Lane, Hostess and an unidentified gentleman.

Color print, lithograph, "Muster roll of the 79th PA Vol." is bordered with three scenes between two central U.S. flags: a campfire with soldiers thinking of families at home; a battlefield scene; a wife with baby and dog at home, thinking of her soldier husband. Side borders show soldiers being reunited with their families.
"The 79th PA were organized and mustered into the Service of the United States at Pittsburg, October the 18th, 1861, and mustered into the service as veterans at Chatanooga Tennessee on the 12th of February 1864." The list includes the name of men in Companies A through K with their ranks. Most lists contain more than 82 names each. At bottom, in the center are the names of commissioned officers, including Lancaster's Col. Henry A. Hambright as well as members of the Regimental Band. At the bases of columns on left and right are a list of 10 Skirmishes and Battles in which the 79 Pa. Volunteers participated in Tennessee, Georgia and Kentucky.
