In December, 1777, General Anthony
Wayne's troops were in camp at
Mount Joy, Lancaster county, Pa., and
were suffering severely from want of
clothing. Col. James Crawford was
designated by Congress as one of a
committee to procure blankets and
clothing for the perishing patriots
