Summary: This journal article discusses a plan in 1701 for a group to buy a large piece of land east of the Susquehanna River from William Penn and make it the fourth county of Pennsylvania. Penn had set forth an offer for a particular parcel, but the group that was interested in purchasing the land was unable to raise enough money to buy it.

Summary: John Armstrong was an army officer during the French and Indian war and the Revolutionary War. In 1758 during the French and Indian War , Armstrong writes a letter from Lancaster, PA, to General George Washington.They were both part of the expedition of British General Forbes to dislodge the French from Fort Duquesne. Colonel Bouquet was second in command under General Forbes.
