Summary
A U.S. surveyor who resided in Lancaster County. He helped map many of the territories west of the Appalachians, surveyed the boundaries of the District of Columbia, continued and completed Pierre Charles L'Enfant's work on the plan for Washington, D.C., and served as a teacher in survey methods for Meriwether Lewis.

Summary
This is a brief article explaining how the Pennsylvania General Assembly during the American Revolution authorized the courts of Philadelphia and Chester County to hold court away from their home area. This was due to the occupation of Philadelphia by the British army, which also forced the Continental Congress to abandon Philadelphia and take up residence in York, PA.
