The Geist Family Papers include correspondence, tax records, legal documents, and other items related to the Geist family. Some correspondence is personal, while other letters relate to legal proceedings concerning estates and inheritances. A number of wills and associated materials, generally related to adjudications involving family members. Numerous local tax notices and federal income tax returns largely pertain to Daniel W. and Bertha W. Geist. Other materials include notebooks and receipts from Daniel W. Geist's time at Millersville State Normal School, visiting cards, and newspaper clippings.

Collection contains material pertaining to pageants, festivals, and celebrations in Lancaster County. The majority of the collection pertains to the "Pageant of Liberty," celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence (1776-1926), and the "Pageant of Gratitude," commemorating the 200th anniversary of the formation of Lancaster County (1729-1929). Included are scripts, minutes, programs, invitations, correspondence, financial records, tickets, photographs, blueprints, and sheet music.
Collection contains photographs, many labeled and dated, and two scrapbooks. One scrapbook contains newspaper articles concerning the military and professional life of Captain Groff. The other scrapbook contains military records including special orders, certificates, passes, correspondence, and government requirements. There are also newspaper articles, maps, and other memorabilia.
Trial Transcript of the Disbarment Hearing of M. Edna Hurst, 1935
Description
This collection contains a bound typescript copy of the trial transcript of the disbarment hearing of M. Edna Hurst from 1935, as well as correspondence between William W. Campbell, Esq. and H. Dennis Shumacher, Esq. regarding the transcript, miscellaneous notes, correspondence between F. Lyman Windolph, Esq. and Robert Ruppin, Esq. and a article entitled "A Short Form of Impeachment" written by Windolph in 1970.
Admin/Biographical History
Mary Edna Hurst Garber (1880-1953) began her law career as secretary to Judge John M. Groff. In 1929, she was admitted to the Lancaster Bar Association. Hurst and Judge Groff were forced to resign their respective positions in 1932 as the result of improper legal activities that included taking money from bootleggers in exchange for leniency in the courts. While Groff resigned as president judge in August, 1932, Miss Hurst violated promise to resign and was disbarred as a result in 1935. Miss Hurst later married Benjamin F. Garber of Elizabethtown where she died in 1953.
