Newly married, with her husband in the infatnry in Germany, Polly Abel moved in with her parents in Philadelphia and took a job at radio station WDAS, where the office teletype buzzed all day long with war news. On March 13, 1945, Polly, standing second from right, joined fellow broadcasters at the Philadelphia Navy Yard for a shakedown cruise on an LCI.
