During the ceremony, General L. L. Lemnitzer, Commander-in-Chief, United Nations and Far East Commands, awarded Maj, Gen. Strickler the frist Oak Leaf Cluster to his Legion of Merit in recognition of his outstanding services to UNC/FEC since his arrival in January 1956. The ceremony marked Maj. Gen. Strickler's release from active military service, having reached the statutory age for termination of active duty. He will continue in a civilian capaity as a consultant commander in Japan.
