Rev. Johann Ludwig Grotemeyer. Born in 1840 in Westphalia, Germany. Died September 16, 1888 at St. Agnes Hospital in Philadelphia. Served St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Lancaster, from November 3, 1878 until his death.

Lived in the old Shippen House, later site of the YWCA, where their three daughters, Susan, Ann wife Mrs. Samuel H. Slaymaker, and Sarah Frances wife of Mrs. Henry Hall McLenegan, were all married in 1856. Th weddings wer attended by James Buchanan. Mrs. McLenegan and Mrs. Slaymaker moved to Beloit, Wisconsin on farms presented by their father.
