Description
Image of young couple. Man has full beard. Patterned vest, chain and large bow tie. Woman in long-sleeved dress with white cuffs and collar and oval brooch at neckline. Fingers are not covered by woman's net gloves. Slight tint of pink to cheeks on both. Inner frame of bronze-colored metal. Atop glass is a narrow cord-like metal fram around edge. All inserted into a red velvet rectangle. Lid is lined in red velvet. Lid and bottom are separate. Case has one hook closure and black exterior.

Description
Daguerreotype of Harriet Lane. Full bust length view, facing right. Her hair is coiled and pinned back. She is wearing a dark jacket over a white blouse, with a white lace collar. Broach at her neck and long earrings are prominent. Gold matting around image. Image mounted inside of book-type case of black leather and red velvet inner lining. Two hook clasps.
This daguerreotype represents the earliest known image of Harriet Lane, niece of President James Buchanan. This likeness might have been photographed ca. 1845, Harriet Lane would have been about fifteen years old.

White ribbon, made by "ERISMAN, Lancaster, PA, is printed with gold lettering: "Shiffler/ FIRE/ Association / No. 7 / Lancaster, /Pa"
Bow: Hand made of white fabric. Hemmed length, folded with a 1 3/8-inch band in center, stitched in back with small elastic loop in center. both ends are edged in green floss buttonhole stitches.
