The volume was later used as a scrapbook with 24 pages glued together or covered with newspaper clippings. Loose newspaper clippings and ephemera are between pages throughout. Volume was also used by donor's grandchildren to draw and practice writing.

Register of pastoral duties of Edward Y. Buchanan “since my admission to the holy order of Deacons by the Right Rev. William White, in St. James’s Church, Philadelphia on Sunday 8 July 1832” listing baptisms, marriages, burials, etc. by date; includes dates, places, and texts of sermons. 253 pages leather bound. Removed from between pages 188-189, four loose pages of church accounts dated 1853-1857; removed from between pages 200-201, one sheet of church accounts dated 1854-1855. 8 July 1832-2 May 1864.

The James Buchanan Family Papers were collected by the James Buchanan Foundation for the Preservation of Wheatland. This collection was relocated from the Wheatland mansion to the LancasterHistory archives in the Spring of 2009. Digitization of the James Buchanan Family Papers was funded by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, PHMC Appl ID # 201808013051, 2019-2020.
