Henry Flick was born in Lancaster on 6 September 1843 and baptized 4 November 1843 at St. James Episcopal Church.
Handwritten letter from Thomas Welsh to one of his daughters. From Acquia Creek, Virginia. Letter expresses his pleasure at receiving letters, describes camp life and satisfaction with current camp conditions, updates activities of various members of his command, and sends his love to his family.
Admin/Biographical History
Thomas Welsh (1824-1863) was a Lancaster County native (born and raised in Columbia), who rose from hardscrabble origins to local fame, first as a Mexican War hero, and then as a brigadier general during the Civil War. He was well known and well respected as a no nonsense officer, for his leadership and gallantry in battle, for his dedication to the service of his country, and for his concern for the welfare of his men. Discoloration on the front, but the paper is intact. Good condition.

Letter from William Henry Lebkicher to his father, David McGran Lebkicher, from camp at Waterloo, regarding the marching from Hillsborough to Sneekers Gap, then to Bloomfield, then to Upperville, then to Piedmont Station where they skirmished with the Confederate Army, then to Orleans and to Waterloo (7 miles from Warrenton Junction). He mentions that he saw Capt. Grass of the 99th, General Burnside, and General McClellan.

Transcription of letter from Thomas Welsh to his wife, Annie. From Antietam Creek, Maryland. Letter details the battles of South Mountain and Antietam, and his frustration with the credit he feels his brigade deserves going to other units. He expresses thorough disgust with the management of the army and the way the battle was conducted (evidently a reference to General McClellan).

Letter from John B. Lebkicher to brother from camp, in which he describes being on the front near the Tennessee River with the enemy before them. They were low on rations and artillery because the weather had been rainy and the wagons are stuck in the mud. They had already captured many prisoners and the way they were traveling in to Tullahoma could lead to more captures. Complains of marching too much.

Description
Handwritten transcription of letter from John B. Lebkicher to brother from Camp 7 Penna. Discusses the Confederate Army moving into Pennsylvania and how he thinks that Pennsylvania is unprepared. States that he has enough men to capture Lee and his army. Also, two men were hanged for beating a union worker to death. Transcription only.
