Description
Rates of Postage and Classification of Mail Matter, by James H. Marshall, Postmaster of Lancaster, published by The New Era Steam Print. Spring 1880, pp.22. The book details rules and regulations of the post office, classification of mail types and accompanying postage prices, suggestions to the public, and domestic and foreign money order systems. Pinned to pg.4 is "Strange Bible Facts" with advertisement for Turkish bath on reverse side.
Blue hardcover large-font children's story/book: "Mammy Tittleback and her Family," by "H."H." Gold picture of girl with 4 kittens on front cover. Boston: Roberts Bros.,1881. "A True Story of Seventeen Cats," Mammry Tittleback's genealogical tree is on page 7. Illustrations by Addie Ledyard include chapter headings and full-page ink drawings throughout the book. Music & lyrics for "The Old Black Cat" (from the "Scholarly Magazine," March, 1873) followed by "Preface" at the end. 101 pp.
Paperback "Painting Book Playful Children. Copyrighted 1888 by Mc Loughlin Bro's New York." Color illustrations on front and back covers. Inside front cover is "Hints to Little Painters" with facing page of three colored illustrations that appear in the book.
Single-sided illustrations with captions for painting. All but 4 have been painted. Advertisements and prices for children's toys and games fill inside back cover.
Small green children's book with designs on cover. Gold on spine with "Going to School Shadydell Stories." Going to School is the 3rd in a 12-vol. set of Sunnybank Stories compiled by Asa Bullard and published in Boston by Lee & Shephard, 149 Washington Street. 64-page story with black ink drawings as illustrations.

"The Decorative Sisters, a modern Ballad" by Josephine Pollard with illustrations by Walter Satterlee was published in New York by Anson D.F. Randolph & Co. in 1881. Many full-page color illustrations including both covers. Dorothea and Dorinda were English sisters.

Wear on cover corners; some wear along cover edges. Front cover separating from book along inside front of spine.
"Chatterbox" was published in Boston by Estes & Laurait, 301 Washington Street in 1884. "Contents" lists "the great variety of original Stories, Sketches, and Poems for the Young, and every illustration which appears in it is expressly designed for this work, by the most eminent English artists." 412 pp. Front cover and frontispiece are color illustrations. Book illustrations and ornate initial letters are black and white. Advertisements fill inside covers and back outside cover.
Flyleaf inscribed "Lillian Sprecher/ from/ Mama/ Aug. 8, 1885."
"Lilliput Land; With Hundreds of Pictures" printed in black ink on the spine. On Illustrated front cover: "Lilliput Land or Peep-show for the Young, edited by the Author of Lilliput Levee, New York: Baker, Pratt & Co." On reverse of the series title page: "London: Printed by McCorquodale and Co." 300 black and white illustrations. An index in the front of this British narrative book lists contents of Serial Stories and Sketches, Prose, Poems, Musical pages and Illustrations. 384 pp. This book "aims to provide Literature for the young." Children's book.
Inscribed: "Lillian M. Sprecher/ bought at/ South Bend, In/ Oct, 1881."
Some pieces of glued-on illustrated front cover are missing. Missing pieces from plain back cover reveal printing beneath. Cover edges, corners are worn. A few pages have missing pieces on lower edge/corners.
"Play-Time/ Sayings and Doings/ of/ Baby-Land/ by Edward Stanford" is a hardcover children's picture book published in London by Chatto & Windu, Piccadilly. Color illustrations on both covers. Children's rhymes and vividly-colored illustrations (by 'Es') on each of 37 pages.
Back of title page inscribed:" Lillian M. Sprecher/ from Mama./ December 25.1888."
