Letter from Alice Welsh (daughter) to Thomas Welsh
Description
Handwritten letter to Thomas Welsh from his 11-year old daughter, Alice. From Columbia. Letter mentions various activities by various family members as well as snow and sledding, a birthday celebration for Effie, the death of a local schoolteacher, and how much she misses her father.

Thomas Welsh (1824-1863) was a Lancaster County native (born and raised in Columbia), who rose from hardscrabble origins to local fame, first as a Mexican War hero, and then as a brigadier general during the Civil War. He was well known and well respected as a no nonsense officer, for his leadership and gallantry in battle, for his dedication to the service of his country, and for his concern for the welfare of his men. There's a serious tear along one fold; needs conservation.

Description
Letter from William Henry Lebkicher to his father, David McGran Lebkicher, from camp near Fredericksburg, regarding Lt. Long leaving for home (Lancaster, PA). He mentions the return of Jacob Holabauck, who was one of three to become sick at Georgetown, and the 9th Army Corp going to Fortress Monroe. 14 February 1863.
In the a little bit below the center of the letter, there are two cuts on the first and fourth pages of the letter.

Letter from William Henry Lebkicher to Edwin from camp near Fredericksburg, Virginia, describing camp life. As requested in a previous letter, he informs Edwin that he has not received boots or gloves and asks for a pair of gloves. He shares that he and his fellow soldiers believe the war will soon be over.

Letter from William Henry Lebkicher to his father, David McGran Lebkicher, from camp near Fredericksburg regarding George Anne’s health and rumors that they would be going to Harpers Ferry to face the Confederate Army. Also, President Lincoln and Governor Curtin were expected to review the camp. He states that the food rations are getting better with provisions of bread, pork, peas, fresh meat, potatoes and onions. He ends the letter stating that the paymaster would be around to give their pay.

Handwritten letter from Thomas Welsh to one of his daughters. From Waterford, Virginia. Letter expresses his pleasure at learning that Lillie has recovered from her illness, his disappointment at not being able to visit home, and provides some details of life in the camp. Text includes a description of the location of the town of Waterford, noting that the inhabitants are Quaker and friendly. Welsh expresses his disappointment in not hearing more from his family, but writes of missing his family very much.
