Locks with engraved lock plates like this one were used on Pennsylvania rifles about the middle of the eighteenth century. Some of the lock plates were flat and others were convex like this one. Some were made by Ketland and signed on the inside of the plate.
Pistol with flint lock, full sock of walnut, silver mountings, octagonal-to-round rifled barrel. Although the general appearance of this pistol suggests a sophisticated English style, it has some provincial details which indicate it was made in Pennsylvania.
