Sand caster or 'sander,' cylindrical body, painted black. Concave ends with rolled rims, wider than body. Top pierced with 19 holes for sand distribution. No other openings, unsure how sand is put into caster.

Wearing silk gown, medium colored, with white collar. Mounted in an American 1850 scoop picture frame with a rustic tree branch motif.

White, pink, and gold pierced bowl compote with pink band surrounded by gold on base from the Shreiner family. "S" in gold script on base. Gold paint traces basket shape made by piercings in bowl. Florets on basket where gold lines intersect. Composed of three pieces with screw holding them together, through stem.
Provenance
Descent within Shreiner family to donor. Mueller is related to Shreiner family through his maternal grandmother Mary Elizabeth Cochran (Mrs. Louis B. Sprecher). Her mother was Alma C. Shreiner (1855-1940) , Mrs. Henry B. Cochran. Alma's father was Henry Michael Shreiner (1832-1919), a watchmaker/jeweler.
Wine bottle. Brown glass, shallow pontil, seamed shoulder and neck. Cork with red wax to seal mouth. Wine inside almost to shoulder level. Found by volunteers sometime during the early years of the James Buchanan Foundation. Bottle was found in the east end of the basement level in the Wheatland mansion.

Fragment from James Buchanan's tomb in Woodward Hill Cemetery, Lancaster, PA. Rectangular base with relief carving of three oak leaves on one short branch with an acorn on top. White marble. On back: paper with handwritten ink: 'a piece of waste marble from (the?) Tomb of Hon. James Buchanan.

Small teacup (A) and saucer (B), white-bodied china. (A) Round teacup has scalloped base including four projecting feet. Rises with an inward curve before curving outward at lip.decorated with applied dark blue petals flanking a circle of applied light blue-painted flowers centering in gold-stampled lettering: " Souvener/ of/ Lancaster/ Pa." Body has molded flowers embossed around top and branch-like handle applied at side. Gold painted trim on one side of handle, the lip, and applied flowers as well as three stamped flowers at each side.
(B) Saucer (4 3/4" dia.) has embossed foliate design on top; small foot ring. Gold painted line on outer edge and inner line circle at central depression. Does not match teacup and may be a later addition.
(A) Teacup stamped on bottom with a crown over a shield with the monogram of "TGC"(?). Impressed nearby is a number, possible "1912" or "1917". (B) Saucer is stamped "MADE IN GERMANY" within a circle. The number "50" is stamped in gold.

Oil on canvas. woman seated facing slightly to right wiht head facing more forward. Left arm draped over chair back. Brown hair parted at center, wearing low crowned cap with elaborate bows and lace coering ears to neck. Gray green eyes. Black pleated dress with stiffening around waist, v-neckline with embroidery or lace collar. Wrapped in soft grey shawl with left hand exposed. Low backed chair is reddish. Background is various browns. Stencil on back: 'A. Armstrong/Artist/ Lancaster, Pa." "1845" painted below stencil. Frame: wooden with multiple stepped profile on molding. Gilded.
Extensive craquelure. Raised stretcher line. Sagging canvas top left and left side. Scattered dark spots across right 2/3. Frame: good overall with worn gilding and inpainting and soil. Minor chips at outside edges. Back uncovered. Mortise and tenon stretcher with keys; some missing or replaced. At left bottom miter joint, a strip of gesso crack filler is loose and pressing against canvas.

Open salt with wide-bodied vasiform on pedestal. Overall copper luster with 3/4-inch-wide band of blue decorated with 5 cream colored dots interspersed with copper luster-painted foliate design.
Inscribed on paper sticker on bottom of interior is: "3M445" and "Master Salt $35.00."
