The James Buchanan Family Papers were collected by the James Buchanan Foundation for the Preservation of Wheatland. This collection was relocated from the Wheatland mansion to the LancasterHistory archives in the Spring of 2009. Digitization of the James Buchanan Family Papers was funded by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, PHMC Appl ID # 201808013051, 2019-2020.
Collection of brochures relating to tourist attractions, museums, historic sites, events, stores, farmers' markets, hotels, and restaurants in Lancaster, Lebanon, and York Counties. Visitors' guides and road maps provide additional information about points of interest. Items in the collection date back to the late 1920s and continue to the present, but most are from the mid-twentieth century.
Letter from George Powell, York School of Business, to Lottie Bausman at the [Lancaster County Historical Society] with reminiscences of Stevens and Buchanan and inquiring about a portrait of Stevens. York.

Portrait of James Buchanan facing 3/4 front, toward his right. Colored print in aqua-blue suit with white tie. Matting has raised impression at outside of oval of grapes, grape vines and leaves. Rounded gesso frame with four raised decorations.
Provenance
The portrait was owned by Dr. Samuel Welshans [father of donor].
On back of artifact: 'An original photograph of Mr. Buchanan-given by him to Dr. Samuel Welshens, Lancaster Pa. Presented by Dr. Welchens daughter Miss Frances K. Welchen. *artifact had been accessioned twice: 89.8 & 35.39
Picture of Buchanan's birthplace. Rectangular gilded frame concave cyma and convex molded. Only front edges of frame gilded. Mitred joints attached with small nails and glue. Extra nail holes indicate that extant nails are not original. Greyish-tan mat.
