Sand Paintings for the late Colonel & Chaplain, Christian H. Martin, Jr, presented for service in the Air Force.
Within in circular bands of gold and white, 3 stars form a triangle around an eagle perched on a a blue-green shield depicting both a cross on the left and a magen david/Star of David atop two tablets on the right. Colors: teal, blue, white, brown, silver, yellow, black
Some of what is written in ink on the back: "Presented by/ Kirtland AFB/ Chapel Family/ May 1982"...USAF Chaplaincy Seal or Emblem. Until 1940, Army Chaplains were in the Army Air Corps; 1940-47, the Army Air Force until 1947. Dept. of Defense started and we were USAF. Chaplain ? Martin."
"This--very special--done with N.M. sand & given to me at Kirtland AFB, Albuquerque, near Trinity site (!) 1st A-Bomb detonation."

Dog bookends. 1. Front half of white dog with black spots shows round black nose, yellow glass eyes, stippled cheeks,ears and front legs. 2. Back portion of white dog with black spots with rear legs and tail. Dog halves are mounted on wood stained in dark brown.

Small box with faded blue paper cover slides fully into either end of the cardboard sleeve, like a match box. A colored drawing, an outdoor setting with some of the pieces, cover the entire top surface. Beneath the drawing on lower left is "10/2"; on lower right is "Made in Western Germany." Kit includes 13 pieces: 13 pieces: 2 ducks; 1 pig; 1 horse; 1 farmer; 1 tree; 1 water bucket; and 5 wooden fence rails.
Coverlet of red wool and blue-green cotton. 2 loom widths decoratively and strongly seamed in the center with red wool. This coverlet is comparatively light weight. Self-fringes of red wool on both sides. Foot end is rolled and hand-stitched. Red wool fringes appear to have been individually applied.Top/head edge is finished with a 1.5-inch wide folded silky red binding. Some machine stitching in black thread and also hand-stitching to attach the binding.
Center field contains rows of circular designs. Roses border the lower edge and foliage in urns border the sides.
Unlike most coverlets, Satler's weaver's blocks in bottom corners are oriented to be read from the top of the coverlet.
Gavel and block made from Donegal Witness Tree. Sycamore head encircled by silver metal band engraved with names of church trustees: Samuel Evans, Henry H. Wiley and Sol(omon) Hoover.

Samuel Evans (1826- ? ) who wrote "History of Donegal Church" in 1878, published in newspaper. Also writer of "History of Lanc. Co." with Evans.
Henry H. Wiley (1832-1897) and Solomon Hoover (1846-1912).
American Fire Company Parade Hat. Leather hat with brim (3" in front tapering to 1 3/8" in rear). Height of central portion of hat is 6" in front and slopes to 1 3/8" at rear. Exterior painted red with 1/4" black borders around rim and base of crown of hat. U.S. emblem/shield in red, white and blue painted on crown beneath a black banner with "American" in 1"-high gold letters. Label inside with "Mr. Jacob Sener." Piece of paper cut and pasted to inside top of hat.
Small oil painting on paper of Mrs. General (Abigail Ann Bailey) John Steele. Head to waist, Mrs. Steele is seated holding a red bound book in her left hand with right hand crossing her left wrist .Fine detail, especially dots on bonnet fabric and designs on sleeve cuffs. Copy of portrait by Jacob Eichholtz.
She and John Steele married on March 4, 1784. She died two weeks after her husband, on March 13, 1827.
On reverse, written in black ink in cursive: "Property of and loaned by/ Mary Steele Slaymaker/ Mrs.. H.E. Slaymaker/ 149 W. Duke St./Lancaster/Pa."
