Originally Bailey & Co, the company was founded by Joseph Trowbridge Bailey and Andrew B. Kitchen. It was located at 136 Chestnut Street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 1840 Joseph’s brother Eli Westcott Bailey, a New York City jeweler and importer hurt financially by the Panic of 1837, came to Philadelphia and entered the firm. The name continued as Bailey & Kitchen. When Joseph died, Eli became the senior partner of Bailey & Co. until he retired in 1867.

American Rococo Revival Walnut Sofa. The serpentine back centered by a rose and shell scrolled carved crest, the back joined to closed arms, with a serpentine apron and raised on cabriole legs terminating in casters, silk velvet upholstery.

Description
Traveling trunk manufactured by J.W. Allen Military Outfitter, 37 Strand, London, England. Low profile oblong trunk with a leather handle on both short ends. Single hinged metal hasp on center apron of the lid locks into flat lock opening at top center of the trunk body. Two partial leather straps that added additional closure to the trunk are extant. Oval brass medallion attached below the lock with J.W. Allen Military Outfitter 37 Strand embossed. H.E.J. Baltimore painted in white stenciling on both ends. White label stating 'Deposit ticket / May 16, 1874 / Henry E. Johnston / 3743' on one end.

This sterling silver coffeepot has a hinged angular and oblong shaped lid with a finial top surmounting a flaired angular neck adorned with a Greek key above a bulging torso. The spout is square with a goose neck shape and flat opening. The pot handle is angular and square with ribbed band decor. The pedstal style base is supported by four ball feet.
