Black lacquer exterior on oblong Gutta-percha container. Central portions of front, back and lid are decorated with gold-outlined 4-lobed design that contains inlaid irredescent flowers. The lid's decoration included 2 additional curved inlays on both ends. A chain of leaves painted gold and green borders the edge of the lid. Bold painted branches with painted flowers decorate both curved ends of the container. The paper-lined base includes a narrow 2-pocketed sleeve for thin items. The fabric-lined lid with a central strip contains four spaces to hold narrow items.
Leather hinge holding top to base has torn and lid is now separate. On both ends of the base are openings (3/8" x 1/16") one-half inch from the top. (Possibly handles or loops that tore?)
