System of Arrangement
The legal papers are arranged chronologically. Case papers are arranged
alphabetically by surname of the plaintiff or defendant. Family papers are grouped by the family member's name and chronologically within that name. Box 6 is arranged chronologically.
This collection contains items relating to the Marquis de Lafayette and his visit to Lancaster County.
Admin/Biographical History
Marie-Joseph Paul Yves Roch Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de La Fayette (1757-1834), better known in America as Lafayette, was a French aristocrat and military officer who fought in the Revolutionary War. He commanded American troops in several battles, including the siege of Yorktown. He visited Lancaster County in July of 1825.

Brown leather album with name James L. Reynolds and year 1863 on front cover. Album is in poor condition. James L. Reynolds was a brother of General John F. Reynolds and Admiral William Reynolds. Album contains carte de visites and cabinet cards of prominent military figures and statesmen. Not all are identified.

Naval Training Center, Bainbridge, MD. Captain Richard B. Derickson, Commanding Officer, Service School Command and Chairman of the Red Feather Drive at Bainbridge, and Mr. John Reardon, U. S. O. Area Director watch the presentation. The check represents part of the money collected in the Combined Charities Drive at the Center. Captain Howe, in presenting the check, said that it was only a small repayment from the Bainbridge men and women for the fine hospitality and friendship of the people of Lancaster.
