Summary
"Between 1826 and 1858 the state of Pennsylvania built and operated the largest and most technologically advanced system of canals and railroads in North America-almost one thousand miles of transport that stretched from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh and beyond. The construction of this ambitious transportation system was accompanied with great euphoria. It was widely believed that the revenue created from these canals and railroads would eliminate the need for all taxes on state citizens. Summary
"Much like the rest of the nation, South Central Pennsyvlania struggled with slavery. The institution lingered locally for more than fifty years, although it was virtually extinct everywhere else within Pennsylvania. Gradually, antislavery views prevailed. The Appalachian Mountains and the Susquehanna River provided natural cover for fleeing slaves, causing an influx of travel along the Underground Railraod. Locals like WIlliam Wright and James McAllister assisted these runaways while publically advocating to abolish slavery." -- page [4] of cover.

Summary
These documents were created by representatives of the Paxton Boys as a written defence of their massacre of the Conestoga Indians. "A Declaration" was written before the Paxton Boys arrived in Germantown, and Matthew Smith and James Gibson completed the "Remonstrance" on February 13. Both documents were later published together as "A declaration and remonstrance of the distressed and bleeding frontier inhabitants of the province of Pennsylvania". This book is a facsimile of an early published copy of the texts.
