Letter James Buchanan to H. B. Swarr transmitting his approval of the merger of the two Presbyterian churches, his gratitude upon receiving a large piece of beef from friends, his hope that the Lecompton Constitution will be defeated, his appreciation to “the Democracy & my own County of Lancaster” for their support, and his surprise at the “power of endurance bestowed upon me by a kind Providence” in handling Presidential matters, important and unimportant. "This microfilm is an addendum to the Lancaster County Tax Records project of 1971 and 1977. The records on this film were donated to the Lancaster County Historical Society in January 1981. They had been kept in the basement of Conestoga View Hospital which was used by the Lancaster County government as a storage facility for records. The tax records were water damaged and subsequently discarded at an unknown point in time. A private citizen discoverd and salvaged the items from a trash heap, and donated them to the Historical Society. The items show extensive damaged [sic] by water, mold, and vermin. Most pages are frayed and sections unreadable."
