Pair of decorative Corinthian columns (A & B), cast in plaster of Paris, owned by Lloyd Mifflin (1846-1921). Extremely ornate columns have added details in addition to the usual scrolling acanthus leaves below capital. Floral garlands hang from mouths of lion masks, hanging tassels have added objects hanging from them, and various insects, lizards and frogs climb or rest on column sides.
Note: Major plaster loss at several corners and other salient points; minor chips overall as well as paint loss. General soiling of surfaces.
Stamped in ink on the bottom of each is "LLOYD MIFFLIN ASSOCIATION/ 'America's Greatest Sonneteer and Painter'/ NEVIN A. STAUFFER, VICE PRESIDENT".
Provenance
