Iron plate from 5 plate stove made by H. W. Stiegel at Elizabeth Furnace in 1758. The vases of tulips and the hart motifs are typical of Pennsylvania German folk art. But the arches on spiral turned columns suggests lingering Baroque sensitivity.
Pictured cast iron elements for a Franklin stove. The front panel is decorated with a sunburst motif. Illustration from Franklin's original publication about his fireplace, published in 1744. The plan shows it as eh designed it.
