Chinoiserie teacup without handle. Small, round foot. Body: tan ground color (probably stained with age), purple-mauve transfer-printed pattern. Outside: 1/3 of the way up, flower pattern with two alternating panels above with thick curving pattern between panels: flowers with interconnecting stems on dotted background, leafy diamond pattern on dotted background, lower and acanthus leaf medallion in bottom of cup, flower design in center surrounded by design. Halfway down inside of cup is same pattern as on outside

In 1995 the JBF staff assigned the Object ID W.95.69.2 to this Compote as a FIC probably because original paper records were not found.
In March 2023 the paper file has been found that identifies Lois Cassatt Thayer as the donor in 1935. Mrs. Thayer was the daughter to Alexander Cassatt and his wife, Maria Lois Buchanan Cassatt. Maria Lois Buchanan was the daughter to Rev. Dr. Edward Y. Buchanan, the youngest sibling to President James Buchanan.

Top scalloped rim painted gold. The 1-inch tan band circling the interio edge is embellished with gold flourishes on both upper and lower edges. Gold design in center bottom of cup bowl. Handle also is decorated in gold.

Description
Single looped finger-hold handle. On exterior: gold band around base edge. Fine gold branch, 3/4" from top, alternating around the cup with 7 3-leaf clusters alternating above and below the branch.
Top scalloped rim painted gold. The 1-inch tan band circling the interio edge is embellished with gold flourishes on both upper and lower edges. Gold design in center bottom of cup bowl. Handle also is decorated in gold.

(6 of 8 cups in good condition) 89.102.15 is fair: visible crack from along handle to base of cup. Break on side of cup has been glued, but chip out of rim.
89.102.20 is fragile. Large crack with opening from rim running almost 3" to base of handle.

Description
Rockingham style teacup. White china body with underglaze decor consisting of beige ground with scattered large scrolling yellow leaves edged in gold and occasional small branches with white berries and 3-leaf branch tips. Lower edge of beige ground defined with a thin undulating vine. Gilt highlights, flourishes and edging. Applied handle features branch-like form.
