Full-length mezzotint portrait of George Washington in a dignified pose, after a painting by Peter Frederick Rothermel. Washington rests one hand on a dress sword emblematic of his military leadership; the other on an upright book. He is in front of an alcove and armchair with the U. S. shield at its crest. Likely published by R. A. Bachia & Co., 12 Dey St., New York, NY in 1852.

This razor case was manufactured by a company founded in 1829, in Germany by two brothers, Hermann and Robert Boker. By 1865, Hermann emigrated to New York City, NY opening a product line of tools and cutlery under the name H. Boker & Co. The trading name of the razor for this case was Red-Injun.
Large decorative glass ink well has a hinged sterling silver lid. The cube-shaped cut-glass body has tapered shoulders and a cut pattern on the base. The actual well is an average size, but miniscule in comparison to the overall body of the object.

Family history indicates that this was a self portrait by Henry, whose art career was discouraged by his uncle James Buchanan (the 15th US President).
