1939 Lancaster Bar Association Photo Membership Plaque
Description
Sheet of 1.75 x 1.25 inch black and white portraits of members of the 1939 Lancaster Bar Association mounted on a wooden plaque. Photos begin upper left with J.W. B. Bausman, 1877, and end R.M. Barley, 1939 in lower right corner. Of the 98, two are women: A.E. Mumma, 1925; and S. H. Worthheimer, 1927.
Black parasol. Black painted finial dowel runs length and ends with a handle grip,flat on one side with curved handle on the other. 29" + when opened. 10-spoked double-layered black fabric parasol. 4-inch wide filmy black lace edging (scalloped edge with embroidered black dot-and-bow embellishment) hand-stitched to lower edge. Black cording loop with black grossgrain ribbon can be wrapped around and hooked over thread-covered wooden barrel-shaped button to close the parasol.
Black parasol with folding handle. Black glossy paint, faux bamboo finial with wooden handle curved at bottom. Hinges 10 inches from bottom and near top, both secured.
Black heavy fabric upper and light black silky fabric lining. Bottom edge is scalloped, cut that way to finish the edge. Some fraying.
Red ribbon with gold lettering above and below central circular sepia head shot of Garfield. Photo in center of shield with gold eagle above and olive branches along sides and bottom: "For President/ Gen. J. A. Garfield.
Yellow ribbon pinned behind a gold-colored metal pin as if hanging behind a relief curtain rod and valance. In black letters on ribbon: "BUSINESS/ MEN'S/ CLUB/ - / McKINLEY/ AND/ ROOSEVELT./ -/ 1900."
Paper sticker on back of ribbon: "Erisman,/ Badges, Banners, Flags/ Lodge Supplies/ Manufacturer's Agent,/ Lancaster, Pa."
White ribbon. In black letters: "Paradise Club./ ---/ Pennsylvania's/ Favorites./ (seal of PA)/ For President./ JAS. BUCHANAN./ For Vice President./ JNO. C. BRECKINRIDGE"
Hound iron from government wagon in Revolutionary War period. Black. Hand-wrought flattened iron is shaped into a rounded band marked "1775 : CB" .
Front and back hounds are heavy wooden members of the running gear. Each is configured into a "wishbone" shape whose "prongs" are attached to front or rear axle. Thus, this iron is likely a hound band that encircles and secures the hounds where they are joined to the coupling pole that runs front to back. (These wooden members are part of what we now call the chassis.)
Cracked. Reads: "I H 1774" Marked three times: "MZ"

Small box with faded blue paper cover slides fully into either end of the cardboard sleeve, like a match box. A colored drawing, an outdoor setting with some of the pieces, cover the entire top surface. Beneath the drawing on lower left is "10/2"; on lower right is "Made in Western Germany." Kit includes 13 pieces: 13 pieces: 2 ducks; 1 pig; 1 horse; 1 farmer; 1 tree; 1 water bucket; and 5 wooden fence rails.
