Description
Chalkware/ Plaster-of-paris statue of Robert Fulton sitting in chair holding a model of a boat.
--Was on loan to the Lancaster Heritage Center - 1997
This statue is a copy of the life-sized statue of Fulton by Howard Roberts that sits in the U.S. Capitol Building.
Innovations in boat technology made shipping on rivers and canals faster and more cost-effective than traditional ground transportation. In 1807, Lancaster County native Robert Fulton buil the first steamboat, Clermont, which greatly increased the speed of boats on rivers and canals.
