Cast iron ashtray in rectangular form, sloping sides, sunken top with raised sides having a textured surface with two corner indentations for cigarettes. Opposite end of indentation is a grouping of four geese, fully formed, attached to top surface with screws. Entire surface is bronzed with a pattern of oblique stripes on sides.
Marked "144" on bottom. The Hubley catalog "Metal Art Goods" lists this ashtray as #144 and named "Goosie Goosie Gander." The description notes it has "an unusual bronze finish".

Owned by J. Roland Gilbert (1888-1940) and inherited by his daughter the donor (1916-1992). Donor writes: "acquired in the late '20s or early '30s and 'possibly' a gift from Mr. Joseph Breneman, a Hubley Exec." J. Roland Gilbert was president of Lancaster Press Inc. and general manager of the New Era Publishing Co.
Bellpull. Yarn braid (green and tan) on edges. Needlepoint and beadwork, simple paisley pattern. Red, clear, and gold beads. Yarn colors are red, gold, greens, and browns. Canvas backing. Brass molded ends with 'c' scroll and eagle and leaf motifs.

Notes
Belonged to donor's great-great-grandparents in 1850s in New York (Brooklyn).
Done in cross stitch. Background in wheat gold, floral pattern. Repeated every 21'. Edge turned under and lined with green cotton twill. One end is turned under and weighted, other end is folded triangularly and stitched. Brass ring on latter end is 3/4"
Remains of green silk at both ends over linen. Backing appears to be natural color linen with an open weave wool decorated with needlepoint floral-design repeated about ten times down length. Red rose/lavender rose/blue violets, with green leaves also shadings of brown.
Part of a four-piece dress. Blue velvet laced belt; white mesh stiffener; lined in navy satin. 5/8" wide navy woven tape with tubular metal clamps at both ends for lacing belt closed using 10 round hand-stiched edged buttonholes, 3 metal stays, one in back, 2 at front opening. Velvet tab attached to inside folds across lacing hoes in front. Lower edge tapers to a slight "v" in the back and a deeper "V" in front.
Hand-painted pearlware bowls. Vibrant red and blue dominate with large red flower off-center on bottom of bowl. Off to sides are 4 small flowers on 1 side and 2 flowers and large bi-color (green & yellow) leaf. Blue stems and leaves are painted in the bowl and the upper edge is banded in blue. The top edge is painted a burgundy/brown.

Blue striped banding at foot ring as well as circumference of center recessed area.
Follows the style of 17th - 18th century Imari decoration, which orginiated in Japan and was copied in China for the European export market in the 18th century. The style was revived in the late 19th century.

Chinese export bowl of high fired porcelain, polychrome decoration under glaze. Thin walled in nearly hemispherical form sitting on a 3/4" raised foot. Gold-painted rim with red edging. Two goldfish inside bottom. Continuous landscape on exterior is the same repeating Roman or Greek scene of a seated half-robed seated man with dog facing three nude women and seated baby. All set against distant mountains and one tree in foreground.

The base is outlined in gold and a hole in the center contains a metal flat-topped pin about 4 inches long that extends below the bowl and is held in place by a cork, threaded onto the pin secured by a wing-nut. The ornately decorated base has open spaces with cascading blue leaves detailed in gold with hanging white acorns. 4 curled designs form the feet for the base. Made in France.

Three twisted dolphins around pedestal stem with heads toward base and tails toward bottom of bowl. Cracked down center of bowl and in three spots on base. Part of vine around lip of bowl is missing.
