Double rifle with original flint lock, stock of curly maple with fine designs carved in bas-relief, brass mountings, octagonal barrels 39 inches long marked John Moll in script letters. Also appears to have the date 1819.
Double rifles with stocks carved in bas-relief are extremely scarce. Berks and Northampton Counties seem to be where most of the men lived who made early double rifles.
Rifle butt, with flintlock, engravings and brass mountings by unknown gunsmith. Card with faint writing in foreground hard to read. Back of photograph appears to say "Butterfield, Robert", however handwriting is hard to read.
Three similiar powder horns. Description in Henry Kauffman's book "The Pennsylvania Kentucky Rifle" is as follows: Most of the horns that are attributed to one, or more makers in York County, Pennsylvania are graceful in form and attractive in their range of color values."
Rifle with flint lock (now percussion), full stock of curly maple, brass mountings, set triggers, silver inlays, octagonal barrel with P. Brong in block letters on the top facet of the barrel. The carving on the cheek side of this rifle is an interesting combination of C scrolls. This is a fine example of workmanship by a Lancaster gunsmith whose products are very rare.
