Description
One of two identical white china high-heeled 19th century woman's shoes, with molded floral decoration around entire shoe. Raised flowers trim front of shoe with a tied bow centered above. Lavishly painted with heavy lustrous gold paint around back and sides of shoe as well as the bow and centers of raised flowers. Printed on top of the shoe front is: "Souvenir/ of /Lancaster/ Pa."
The number "59" is handpainted on bottom of heel. Impressed underneath instep is: "A" over "1924"

Description

Description
Insignia or logo of Woolworth's store in Lancaster. Made of stamped non-ferrous sheet metal. Diamond shape with raised border and raised upper case letter "W" at center. Raised parts painted gold and recessed background painted red. Appears to be repainted. Top has an onion-like finial. Four tack holes at inside of four corners for mounting.
Provenance
From Slaymaker family's museum. Two label cards used in the White Chimneys family museum read: "Trademark, plaques, from Frank Woolworth's first store." and "Woolworth's second Lancaster building. Store was on ground and basement levels; offices for rent above. S.R. Slaymaker maintained his downtown office here." (Additional "plaque" is G.98.12.23.)
The first store opened in 1879 in the 2nd block of N. Queen St. The 2nd store opened in 1900 at Grant and N. Queen Sts.

Description
High relief carved wood insignia or logo of Woolworth's store in Lancaster. Armorial setting with a shield-like shape surrounded by scrolling with acanthus leaves extending outward at sides. At center of "shield" carved into a forward swell is a letter "W" enclosed inside a diamond. Used in F.W. Woolworth's downtown store.

Condition Notes
Generally intact; two leaf tips are broken off and there are three small areas of wood breakout located at three of the tack holes. Multiple holes where tacks were used to secure to wall. Finish is aged with alligatoring and soil.
