Agreement between Elliott T. Lane and James Buchanan concerning funds of Jane B. Lane, Elliott’s wife and James’ sister, and in case she makes no will, how the estate will be divided. Involves bequeaths from her father, James Buchanan, and her mother, Elizabeth Buchanan. Also mentioned in the agreement are her sister, Harriett Henry, and her brother, the Reverend Edward Y. Buchanan, and her four children, James B. Lane, Elliott E. Lane, Mary Elisabeth Lane and Harriett Rebecca Lane. Franklin County, PA.

Letter from James Buchanan to Eskridge Lane grieving over the death of Harriet’s sister, Mary; continuing his dislike of his position and the London weather; determining to remain abroad until the nominating convention and not to interfere in the Senatorial campaign even though Glancy Jones might be a candidate; and thinking James Henry’s decision to take a steamer to Europe foolish. The James Buchanan Family Papers were collected by the James Buchanan Foundation for the Preservation of Wheatland. This collection was relocated from the Wheatland mansion to the LancasterHistory archives in the Spring of 2009. Digitization of the James Buchanan Family Papers was funded by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, PHMC Appl ID # 201808013051, 2019-2020.
