Description
Coin silver teaspoon, down-turned fiddle handle with short midrib on back, chamfered shooulders, broad-based drop, deep bowl with pointed oval shape.
Monogram on handle top is "CH" and underneath us "MLS." Accompanying the bottom monogram, underneath is the date "6-5-1962." At midpoint on handle bottom is struck "J. SHAFFNER" within a rectangular reserve and "STANDARD" within an "S" curved reserve.
Spoons were likely produced by Robert and William Wilson of Philadelphia in the 1840s, then retailed by John Shaffner of Lancaster City. Shaffner had a business advertisement in the Lancaster City Directory of 1843, listing his business as a "Comb, Jewelery, Fancy, and Trimming Store" at 18 North Queen St.
