Letter from James Buchanan to Eskridge Lane executing the deed of Mr. Michael; saying that Harriet is still with the Browns; hoping that the news that some of his political friends will support Cameron for the Senate is not true; and he hopes to soon have a good Secretary of Legation to replace the departed Sechles. Description
Letter from James Buchanan to Harriet Lane Johnston returning a corrected deed; enclosing Mrs. Ellis’ letter; saying that Mr. Schell has left and enjoyed the “young ones”; noting that Jessica is turning into a young lady at age seventeen; regretting that Mrs. Lane still has not visited; noting that James Buchanan spent the day; and that the Nevins “are kind & sociable as ever and that James thinks that there is a “promising condition between Harriet & the embryo Bishop.” Wheatland.

The Alice Ferree Todd Papers collection contains 119 letters and documents created by, sent to, or kept by Alice Ferree Todd (1845-1930). The majority of the letters are from Alice Ferree Todd to her husband Moses Hampton Todd (1945-1935). The remaining are correspondences between Alice and her family (sisters and other relatives) as well as mortgages/deeds signed by James Barr Ferree, Alice's father.
Admin/Biographical History
Elizabeth, Martha, Mary, and Alice were the daughters of Mr. and Mrs. James B. Ferree, a prominent merchant in Philadelphia and a descendent of Daniel and Marie Ferree.
