Grave marker of Charles L. Abel at St. Laurent sur Mer, Caen, France. Pharmacist Mate Third Class Charles L. Abel, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Abel was killed in action in the initial landings on the coast of France, June 8, 1944, while caring for the wounded. A veteran of the invasion of Sicily, he enlisted in December 1942. He received his training at Bainbridge, Maryland; Norfolk, Viriginia; and Brooklyn, NY. He went overseas in May 1943.
