American Fire Company Parade Hat. Leather hat with brim (3" in front tapering to 1 3/8" in rear). Height of central portion of hat is 6" in front and slopes to 1 3/8" at rear. Exterior painted red with 1/4" black borders around rim and base of crown of hat. U.S. emblem/shield in red, white and blue painted on crown beneath a black banner with "American" in 1"-high gold letters. Label inside with "Mr. Jacob Sener." Piece of paper cut and pasted to inside top of hat.
U.S. American eagle painted on black silk fabric. A flying bald eagle painted in color with red, white and blue stars-and-stripes shield covering its breast. Talons grip arrow in one foot; olives branch is grasped in the other. In its beak, the eagle grips the end of a ribbon flying behind it and dropping below so we can read the back of it with "E Pluribus Unum" in mirror writing. Appears to have been part of a flag.

Fragile, brittle; folded in certain places, but too brittle to flatten. Paint is cracked in places and fabric has separated in other places.
A reel-type quilt pattern in 9 pieces cut from 2 different yellow papers is attached to a large sheet of newsprint. A central square with concave sides with a horizontal oval shape cut out in its middle is attached to the paper with long stitches of white thread. Four arcs of the same yellow paper surround the central piece. Four 6-plumed flourishes of a glossy yellow paper project from tips/corners of the central piece. These are also stitches in brown and white threads to the newspaper backing.
Donor claimed this is a Lancaster County piece and a Lancaster newspaper.

A hemmed rectangle of silk, memento of the "National Democratic Convention/ Baltimore 1912." A band with flags of 50 countries from around the world borders a white center with 4 U.S. flags (with 48 stars), one flag in each corner.
